Metapol
Our process greatly improves the existing corrosion resistance offered by stainless steel by removing free iron on the surface. This results in an increased level of corrosion resistance. Typically 10-40µ of base material is removed during processing, dependent upon shape and configuration of the part.
Electro polishing also reduces surface friction by improving the micro surface finish. Surface stresses are removed and the part will not require hydrogen de-embrittlement, because only oxygen is released at the surface.
The "300" series of stainless steels are the predominant types of stainless steel alloys processed, giving an excellent smoothing and brightness characteristic to the surface texture. This offers a hygienic surface that is easily maintained in use, making it highly desirable for the medical and food industries.
The automobile industry has found the aesthetic value of the finish enhances the ancillary fixtures, such as radiator mesh grilles, currently an "en vogue" addition including satin finishes.
We pickle and passivate on request, mechanically worked or welded material. Please note that weld pickle pastes gives inferior corrosion resistance and will therefore over time lead to corrosion.
Many complex shapes including internal bores down to 3mm diameter can be successfully polished. Our experienced personnel meet the most stringent requirements demanded by our customers and compliment their high quality workmanship.
The "Metapol" process is backed up by our group laboratory services that are accredited to ISO 9001.
Corrosion, abrasion and maintenance of life cycle costs are all key aspects to consider when specifying "Metapol" to treat your stainless steel product.
