Hard Chrome Plating
Hard chrome plating is used to electro deposit a chromium layer that is extremely hard and corrosion resistant. Hard chrome plating should not be confused with decorative chrome plating that is normally associated with items such as taps and automotive trim.
Functional or hard chrome plating usually calls for deposit thickness in the range of 2.5 microns to 500 microns or more. The hard chrome deposit will have a low coefficient of friction and will impart exceptional wear characteristics to the component on which it is plated.
The major use of hard chromium is to provide coatings with superior wear, abrasion
and/or corrosion resistance. Hard chrome plating can also be used to rebuild
or salvage worn parts such as rolls and roll journals, moulding dies and
other tools, cylinder liners, crankshafts and mismachined items.
Metallic Protective Plating offer their own version of functional chrome - Metallichrom. |
